Apple has begun delivering Houston-made AI servers to its data centers nationwide ahead of schedule, a step in scaling its in-ecosystem AI while reshoring some of its manufacturing.
Apple's Houston plant is up and running, and is already shipping American-made servers built to power Apple Intelligence. The ahead-of-schedule shipments of servers shows how aggressively Apple is moving to reshore parts of its high-tech manufacturing pipeline.
The servers are being dispatched to Apple's data centers across the U.S. to power its own in-ecosystem AI needs. They form the backbone of Apple Intelligence and will handle secure cloud processing for Apple's newly launched AI features.
"We're thrilled to be shipping American-made advanced servers from our Houston facility," Apple Chief Operating Officer Sabih Khan told Fox News Digital. "As part of our $600 billion commitment to the United States, these servers will be installed in our data centers and play a key role in powering Apple Intelligence with Private Cloud Compute."
The deal was officially announced in February 2025 by Apple CEO Tim Cook following a meeting with President Trump at the White House. At the time, Cook pledged a $500 billion investment, which would later see an additional $100 billion investment when the company announced its American Manufacturing Program.
"Our teams have done an incredible job accelerating work to get the new Houston factory up and running ahead of schedule," Khan continued. "We plan to continue expanding the facility to increase production next year."
The Houston-built servers are "incredibly energy-efficient," a crucial factor as AI workloads drive massive increases in data center power use. That efficiency is key to keeping Apple on track for its 2030 carbon-neutral target while still expanding Apple Intelligence across millions of devices.
These servers aren't the only reshoring commitment Apple has made, either. Apple has recently announced an additional $2.5 billion commitment to produce iPhone and Apple Watch cover glass in the United States.
