The premiere of Vince Gilligan's drama "Pluribus" on Apple TV on Thursday was unfortunately hit by an outage of Apple's servers, shortly after the first two episodes debuted.
Pluribus is the highly anticipated return of Vince Gilligan, the creator of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, which Apple TV premiered on November 7. However, the launch of the new show went far from smoothly.
Not long after the show became available to stream on Apple TV on Thursday evening, Apple's servers started to have trouble in the United States and Canada. The outages meant that Apple TV subscribers weren't able to catch the show in its opening hours of availability.
Apple acknowledged the downtime on its System Status page, advising that "Some users were affected" by outages of Apple TV, Apple Music, and Apple Arcade, between 10:29 p.m. and 11:38 p.m. All three have since been updated to state they are "Resolved."
Though Apple doesn't typically explain the reasoning behind service outages, the timing at least gives the appearance of it being connected to the new show. However, given Apple's scale of operations, it's unlikely to be the case.
A mystery about free will, "Pluribus" follows Carol, played by Rhea Seehorn, as she navigates a world affected by a mysterious signal from space. As conflict, grief, and anger vanish overnight in the rest of the world, Carol is the only person unaffected, and clings on to her misery as proof of free will.
The show is one of the highest profile new arrivals to Apple TV, so the outage is unfortunately timed, if ironically matching the show's theme of resisting supposed perfection.
