"The Rest is History" has been named Apple Podcasts 2025 Show of the Year, a testament to the hosts' ability to make complex history feel accessible, engaging, and genuinely fun.

The Rest is History is, as the name would imply, a history-centric podcast. But, somehow, it's more than that.

Historians-turned-hosts Tom Holland and Dominic Sandbrook have made it their mission to cover stories listeners know from angles they may not have considered. Topics can be nearly anything, from the sinking of the Titanic to Watergate and anything in between.

The show's popularity comes from the hosts' ability to combine rigorous research with engaging storytelling. Rather than moralizing past moments that could be considered questionable by today's standards, it relishes the absurdity.

"The Rest Is History does a phenomenal job in taking a subject as vast as human history and captivating a global audience," Oliver Schusser, Apple's vice president of Podcasts, Music, Sports, and Beat, said in a press release.

"Tom and Dominic have created something special that represents the very best of what's possible with podcasting — it's educational, it's hilarious, and it has fostered a true sense of community. We're thrilled to recognize it as the Apple Podcasts 2025 Show of the Year."

When asked their thoughts on being named Apple Podcasts Show of the Year, Holland called it "the biggest thrill imaginable."

"We're the first British podcast to win it, so that's a cause for patriotic pride," he said.

"I feel particularly delighted that it's Apple who has recognized us. I couldn't be more delighted and honored."

To celebrate The Rest Is History being named Show of the Year, Apple has collated a collection of content for fans across its services. There's a collection of the hosts' favorite books in Apple Books, their favorite classical hits on Apple Music Classical, and an exclusive interview via Apple News In Conversation.
