A new leak has added to the list of colors Apple is known to have tried out before releasing its all-white AirPods charging cases back in 2016.

It is an unbelievable nine years since the first AirPods came out and replaced the iconic white iPod-style headphones with newly iconic white earbuds. Back in 2023, it was revealed that Apple had been considering launching AirPods in different colors, and now at least one more has come to light.

According to leaker Kosutami, Apple tested a bright yellow and a bright pink AirPod charging case.

If this is correct — since third-party firms have custom painted AirPods in different colors — then it's the yellow one that definitely wasn't known before. There was a pink version listed in the older leak, which was also made by Kosutami.

Back then, Kosutami said that the AirPods had been planned to come in Pink, PRODUCT(RED), Purple, Black and something called Blonde. The leaker's images, though, only showed what may have been generously called pink, but were really more of a skin-color or even pale brown.

The idea was reportedly that the colors would match the then-new iPhone 7 range. Kosutami claimed that a purple iPhone 7 was cancelled before launch, although there was also no sign of a pink edition.

Apple originally released the iPhone 7 in silver, gold, rose gold, and black. In 2017, it added a PRODUCT(RED) edition.

This time Kosutami offers no further details. Originally, though, he or she specified that the various color versions were only abandoned at the last moment, during Apple's Design Validation Testing, or Product Validation Testing, stages.
