Most previous iPhone Fold leaks have concerned the screen, but a new one claims to have details of the cameras, repositioned buttons, colors, and more.

There have been rumors of an iPhone Fold since at least 2019, when Samsung brought out its first foldable. Even the most recent, however, have concerned the screens and overall form factor.

Now a series of leaks from "Instant Digital" on Chinese social media site Weibo appear to have detailed everything else. Instant Digital has a reasonable track record, plus what he or she says now seems reasonable.

According to Instant Digital, the iPhone Fold will:

  • Move volume buttons from the left side to top right
  • Keep the sleep/wake button on the right as usual
  • Have a camera plateau that is all black instead of colour matched
  • Have dual rear cameras arranged horizontally
  • Smaller Dynamic Island
  • Come in white and one other colour as yet unknown
  • Have the largest iPhone battery to date

The sleep/wake button on the right is significant because, once more, this leak says that the iPhone Fold will use Touch ID on that button.

Otherwise, the significance of the placement of buttons is that it means a user will have everything on the same side, when the iPhone Fold is opened. They won't have to reach across to the opposite side anymore — and Apple won't have to run control circuits across the folding screen either.

Instant Digital says that Apple is leaving the entire left side of the iPhone Fold empty, or clean. The claim is that without any buttons — and with the motherboard being on the right — the entire left side can be used for the screen and battery.

This is how the iPhone Fold may gain the biggest iPhone battery that Apple has ever produced. It's similar to how Apple repositioned the motherboard in the iPhone 17 to give maximum room for the battery.

One surprise in the leak concerns the color of the iPhone. As stated, it will come in two colors of which one is known to be white.

But at the same time, the camera plateau is said to be black, regardless of the color of the rest of the iPhone Fold. That would seem to go against Apple's reported plan to leave behind the two-tone look of the iPhone 17 range.

It's possible that the specifics of this leak have been lost in translation. Or perhaps that the other color for the iPhone Fold will be black, and that's the camera plateau that has been seen.
