The Apple Health app has just been updated with two key changes — a new Average Bedtime metric and a blood oxygen graph in the Vitals section.
With the release of the first iOS 26.4 developer beta on Monday, enhancements for Apple Podcasts and Apple Music apps were introduced. Another system application, Apple Health, was modified as well. It now offers additional sleep-related information to iPhone users.
To be more specific, Apple Health has received a dedicated Average Bedtime metric, available as part of a new Sleep Highlight in the Sleep section. iOS users will be able to see the time they typically go to bed, based on their sleeping habits over the past two weeks.
As MacRumors notes, the new Average Bedtime metric will help users keep track of their sleep, as it exists alongside the average sleep time metric available in iOS 26.3.
In addition to the new sleep details, the Vitals view within Apple Health was modified for users in the United States. Blood oxygen data is now once again displayed in the Vitals view, after previously being available only as a separate metric in the Apple Health app.
Blood oxygen measurements are displayed on an iPhone because of Apple's dispute with the biotech firm Masimo. Apple was accused of infringing on Masimo's patents related to blood oxygen measurements on wearable products like the Apple Watch.
To bypass an Apple Watch import ban in the United States, Apple ended up removing blood oxygen detection from the device in January 2024, before making the blood oxygen measurements available only on a paired iPhone in August 2025.
Beta testing of iOS 26.4 only started on Monday, and we might see new health-related features roll out with future iOS updates. According to a February 2026 report, Apple will allegedly split its planned "Apple Health " subscription service into smaller feature releases.
