Apple is expected to revamp the iOS multitasking system specifically for the iPhone Fold, with a left-hand side bar and side-by-side app views being among the rumored changes.
Following a rumor saying the iPhone Flip was canceled, we now have new claims about Apple's first foldable iPhone, or more specifically, its multitasking system.
Rumors of an iPhone with a folding display began popping up in 2017, with a report estimating that mass production of its screens would begin in 2020. While that ultimately never came to be, more recent rumors suggest the device is on track to debut in late 2026.
It's been suggested that, when unfolded, the iPhone Fold would resemble an iPad mini. On Wednesday, a Bloomberg report reiterated this claim, while offering new details about the multitasking system that will go along with the iPad-like proportions.
Apple will allegedly bring side-by-side multitasking to iOS, and in-app sidebars are expected to be available on the left side of the screen. However, the iPhone Fold reportedly won't run iPadOS, meaning users will not have access to the iPadOS 26 windowed multitasking system.
Repeat hardware rumors — Touch ID and two rear cameras
In terms of the hardware itself, Wednesday's report reiterated that the iPhone Fold would feature Touch ID as opposed to Face ID. This has been rumored since March 2025, so the claim is not surprising in the slightest.
Apple's iPhone Fold is apparently too thin to incorporate the Face ID module, which is why Apple ultimately chose Touch ID instead. The report claims it will be located in the side button, as is the case on the entry-level iPad.
The front of the phone, meanwhile, will reportedly feature a hole-punch camera cutout. Dynamic Island will allegedly still be available, despite the absence of Face ID.
On the back, the foldable iPhone will sport two cameras, as was rumored back in February 2025.
In terms of pricing, the iPhone Fold is expected to cost more than $2000. This, again, lines up with an earlier rumor, dating back to March 2025.
The new multitasking system, along with a relatively durable design and wide aspect ratio, is meant to justify the rather high price tag. Apple's design will allegedly make the foldable iPhone "more appealing for watching video," per the report.
Aside from the claim about side-by-side multitasking, there's nothing new in Wednesday's report. Every other claim matches previous rumors about the iPhone Fold.
