Apple's first trailer for "Cape Fear" turns the classic thriller into a darker psychological horror series led by Amy Adams, Javier Bardem, and Patrick Wilson for Apple TV.

Apple has unveiled a darker TV adaptation of "Cape Fear," set to premiere on June 5, 2026, on Apple TV. The 10-episode series stars Amy Adams, Javier Bardem, and Patrick Wilson, with Nick Antosca as the creator and showrunner.

With Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg as executive producers, this adaptation promises a gripping experience for viewers.

The series will premiere globally on Friday, June 5 with its first two episodes, followed by weekly releases through July 31. Bardem plays Max Cady, the convicted killer originally portrayed by Robert Mitchum in 1962 and Robert De Niro in Scorsese's 1991 remake.

Anna and Tom Bowden, played by Adams and Wilson, see their lives collapse after Max Cady gets out of prison and targets the couple who helped put him there. Apple's first trailer leans heavily into psychological horror with tense family scenes, escalating threats inside the Bowdens' home, and Bardem's physically intimidating portrayal of Cady.

Nick Antosca created the series and serves as showrunner and executive producer. The project also reunites Scorsese and Spielberg with the franchise after the pair worked together on the 1991 film, which Scorsese directed and Spielberg produced.

"Cape Fear" gives Apple another drama tied to major Hollywood filmmakers and recognizable source material. The company's streaming strategy prioritizes high-profile productions with established creators, franchise recognition, and award-winning actors.

Adams and Bardem also serve as executive producers on the series. Their involvement continues Apple's pattern of structuring major productions around high-profile creative partnerships with established actors and filmmakers.

Antosca's background suggests the series will lean harder into psychological horror than earlier versions of "Cape Fear." He previously created and produced genre projects including "Channel Zero," "A Friend of the Family," and "The Act."

Expanding "Cape Fear" into a series changes the structure of the story

Apple's 10-episode adaptation stretches the story into a longer psychological thriller built around sustained tension and escalating paranoia. The format gives the series more room to explore the Bowden family's unraveling and Max Cady's manipulation tactics over multiple episodes.

Weekly releases also turn "Cape Fear" into another long-running Apple TV rollout instead of a single binge-release event. That structure has become increasingly common for prestige streaming dramas that rely on ongoing tension and audience discussion across several weeks.

Supporting cast members include Joe Anders, Lily Collias, Malia Pyles, CCH Pounder, Jamie Hector, and Anna Baryshnikov. Academy Award nominee Morten Tyldum directs the pilot episode and also serves as an executive producer.

The series is produced by UCP and Amblin Television and is based on both John D. MacDonald's novel "The Executioners" and the earlier film adaptations.
