Nike+ Run Club updates with Apple Music & GPS support for impending Apple Watch Nike+ launch

A day before the Apple Watch Nike+'s arrival at stores and doorsteps, Nike has updated its Nike+ Run Club app — closely integrated with the special-edition Watch — with a variety of features, including support for Apple Music, and GPS across all compatible Watch models.

Users of Run Club can stream not just Apple Music, but Nike's custom playlists. The GPS support includes all Series 2 Watches, not just the Nike+, and lets people track their route without carrying an iPhone on a run.

A number of features are watchOS 3-specific, such as Siri controls for starting, pausing, and ending a run, and getting audio readouts from a Watch speaker. Some of these — like run reminders and invitations — were previously teased when Apple revealed the Nike+ Watch on Sept. 7.

Among other changes are a redesigned summary screen, easier sharing, and a variety of bugfixes, for instance ensuring that all runs will sync to Apple's Health app, and that run settings will stay in place after updates.

The Apple Watch Nike+ is virtually identical to regular Series 2 models, but comes with Run Club, extra watchfaces, and above all a lighter, perforated version of the Sport Band.
