If you have picked up a 2021 12.9-inch iPad Pro, you will want a case that protects and fits it perfectly. AppleInsider has compiled a list of cases that can keep your new tablet looking pristine for longer.
The latest model of 12.9-inch iPad Pro introduces a few major changes to the well-worn specifications list, including the use of the M1 processor and a new mini LED-backlit display, as well as 5G connectivity. With the introduction of the new features, there's a good chance that many users will opt to upgrade to the latest edition, albeit with a marginal caveat.
While the overall width and length of the tablet are the same, as with many of its other physical attributes, that new display technology actually increases the thickness of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro from 5.9mm (0.23 inches) in the 2020 model to 6.4mm (0.25 inches) in the 2021 version.
This slim change is just enough to make an already tight fit in the 2020 Magic Keyboard even tighter, due to Apple's design tolerances. This may also be a factor for other cases, though in many instances an existing 2020 iPad Pro case should generally work fine with the 2021 version.
What follows is a list of cases you can buy for the 2021 iPad Pro that will fit the latest model without any issue. If you're concerned about getting a case that will suit the new model, get one from this list and be sure that it will fit like a glove.
Apple
The Smart Folio for the fifth-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro is made from a single piece of polyurethane, protecting the front and back of the tablet. Using embedded magnets, it can also automatically wake your iPad when the cover is opened and put it to sleep instantly by closing it.
Offered in Deep Navy, White, Black, Mallard Green, and Electric Orange, it is priced at $99.
OtterBox
The OtterBox Defender Series Pro Case is a hardy case with multi-layer protection from drops, including an inner synthetic rubber shell, outer polycarbonate slipcover, and a polycarbonate shield stand. Port covers help block dirt and dust from entering the tablet, with the case also offering a number of different stand configurations via its shield stand.
Offered with a limited lifetime warranty, it is available from Amazon for $129.95. Or save 10% with coupon code OTTER10 when ordering from Otterbox directly.
Otterbox's Symmetry Series 360 Case is a slimline case that includes a clear scratch-resistant back cover with a folio-style screen cover. Housing magnets provide wake-and-sleep functions and a microfiber liner protects the iPad Pro's casing. It also includes storage for the Apple Pencil.
Available in Scholar Grey and Yale Blue, the case is available for $99.95 on Amazon.
Pad & Quill
The Pad & Quill Octavio Slim Magnetic Case is a book-style case with a thin design. The archival-quality buckram linen cover includes magnets for wake and sleep functions, as well as an optional internal pocket.
The case costs $101.96 with promo code PQ15 from Pad & Quill directly, with the internal pocket adding another $8.95 to the price.
For those with a Magic Keyboard, the Copertina Magic Case is a great option, as it can hold both the iPad Pro and the Magic Keyboard at the same time. The book-style cover has a folding element to allow the Magic Keyboard's hinge to work unimpeded at various angles, while still using the same linen buckram book cloth.
Offered in charcoal and linen gray colors, it is priced at $110.46 from the company directly when discount code PQ15 is applied during checkout. An internal pocket option is also available for an extra $10.
The Oxford Leather Case is made from American full-grain bridle leather, with an elastic strap closure. Like the Copertina, it is made to hold both the iPad Pro and the Magic Keyboard safely inside, and includes the magnetic on-off functionality.
Offered with a 25-year warranty and in a choice of Chestnut, Whiskey, and Galloper Black colors, it retails for $159.95, but coupon code PQ15 knocks 15% off, bringing the price down to $135.96. A laser engraved monogram of up to three characters is also available for an extra $19.95.
Spigen
The Spigen Tough Armor Pro is, as the name suggests, made to protect your iPad Pro, using shock-absorbent layers with air cushioning. The toughened exterior has raised edges to protect elements like the display and camera from surface scratches, with it also incorporating a kickstand and storage for the Apple Pencil.
It is available on Amazon for $31.99.
The Liquid Air Folio is a more conventional folio-style case, with a thin casing joined by a foldable display cover that can be used as a stand. Equipped with magnets for wake and sleep, the case includes cutouts for the Pencil to be attached and to access ports.
The case is available for $26.99 from Amazon.
The Ultra Hybrid Pro Case is a middle-ground between the two other cases, in that it offers enhanced dual-layered protection with air cushioning, as well as a foldable cover that can be used as a stand. A flap at the top can be moved out of the way for access to the Apple Pencil, as well as to keep the stylus in place while it is being recharged.
Amazon lists the Ultra Hybrid Pro at $34.99.
Logitech
The Logitech Combo Touch, updated to the latest iPad Pro, offers users both protection for their tablet and an alternative to the Magic Keyboard. The protective case can be used on its own to keep the iPad Pro safe, and it includes a built-in kickstand to keep it upright at a variety of angles.
It is supplied with a keyboard cover that attaches to the case, which in turn connects to the iPad Pro using the Smart Connector. Taking power from the iPad Pro, the backlit keyboard features a trackpad with multi-touch support.
It is available to purchase from Amazon for $229.99.
