Big crowd gathers for American Dream Mall Apple Store opening

Crowds lined up to attend the opening of the new Apple Store at the American Dream Mall in New Jersey on Saturday, one that also provided shoppers with a specially-branded tote bag.

Apple's opening of the Apple American Dream storefront in East Rutherford, New Jersey took place at 11am on December 3. While the opening was announced less than a week prior on November 28, the event saw a considerable crowd gather to take part.

In one video shared on Twitter by Gregory McFadden, shoppers queued around the balcony and across the building to get into the store.

For the lucky few who made it in on opening day, they also got a free tote bag for their efforts. The bag featured a rainbow-lined Apple logo, the same one used for the promotion of the store's opening.

The storefront uses Apple's most recent design for its retail space, with it including a dedicated pickup area for online orders. The mall store will also provide Genius Bar appointments to customers, and will hold Today at Apple sessions.

The American Dream Mall opened in 2019 and is the second-largest shopping mall in the United States. While it beats the Pennsylvania King of Prussia Mall by more than 200,000, American Dream is still smaller than the largest in the country, the Mall of America.

Are there other Apple Stores in the immediate area? Why would this one get such a lineup, to see the same ol' Apple products that can be seen everywhere?

Second largest mall in America = foot traffic.

Manhattan has a number of Apple stores: the density of foot traffic obviously supports them. I can think of 4 just below Central Park; and there’s others (Williamsburg, UWS, UES and more)  yet from the Oculus to the UWS is just over 4.9 miles…

New York, Upper West Side
New York, Upper East Side
New York, SoHo
New York, Fifth Avenue
New York, West 14th Street
New York, Grand Central

and New Jersey? Most densely populated state in America…

Also important to remember about those Manhattan stores- they all get a huge number of international tourist purchases that the stores outside of Manhattan do not see.  In particular, a Brazilian or Turkish customer can save 50% over what an item would cost back at home because of currency exchange and their local taxes.
