Apple issues first tvOS 17.1 developer beta

Apple's first developer beta for tvOS 17.1 is now available to download for testing, marking the first beta since the release of tvOS 17.

Developers taking part in the beta can pick up the latest builds through the Apple Developer Center, or by updating any Apple TV boxes that are running the beta. Public beta versions of milestone releases generally arrive soon after the developer counterparts, and the public can sign up to test them via the Apple Beta Software Program when they become available.

The new beta follows after the full release of tvOS 17 on September 18, six days after the RC beta from September 12.

The new beta is build number 21K5043e, replacing the final 17.0 build, number 21J354.

As it is the start of a new beta generation, there's little information to go on for what's included, but it's likely to consist of bug fixes, initial feature updates, and compatibility adjustments, as well as any new features that failed to make it into the initial. tvOS 17 release.

AppleInsider and Apple strongly advise users don't install beta operating systems, or beta software in general, on to "mission-critical" or primary devices, as there is the chance of issues that could result in the loss of data. Testers should instead use secondary or non-essential hardware and ensure they have sufficient backups of their critical data at all times.
