Apple's iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro will feature faster chips with some models getting more RAM than ever before, according to a last-minute analyst report.
With Apple set to announce a raft of new iPhones at its "Awe Dropping" event on September 9, Trendforce analysts have had their say on what we should expect. And while the rumors largely match up with previous reports, it's another indication of big things to come.
The report suggests that Apple will give the upcoming iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air a new A19 chip, while those buying an iPhone 17 Pro or iPhone 17 Pro Max will get the more capable A19 Pro.
However, the report claims that only the iPhone 17 Air, Pro, and Pro Max will get a RAM bump to 12GB. Storage options are also expected to start at 256GB for those models, as previously reported.
This differs from some previous reports, which had Apple adding 12GB of RAM to all four new iPhone 17 models. However, it should be noted that other reports have suggested otherwise.
If this report is accurate, the iPhone 17 will make do with the existing 8GB of RAM. For reference, all four iPhone 16 models have 8GB of RAM.
In theory, the move to 12GB of RAM would allow the new iPhones to run games and apps more smoothly, but this depends very much on the use case in question. It's also likely that they will be more performant when using Apple Intelligence and other AI-powered apps and features.
It's unclear why Apple may choose to limit the iPhone 17 to 8GB of RAM while giving the iPhone 17 Air an additional 50% of memory, especially if both models use the same A19 chip.
The report suggests that Apple aims to pit the iPhone 17 Air squarely at the Galaxy S25 Edge, Samsung's own ultra-thin device.
Thankfully, we won't have to wait too much longer to learn more about Apple's plans. All four new iPhones are expected to be announced alongside new Apple Watches during Apple's event on September 9.
TrendForce is not known for unique leaks. Rather, they repackage what's already been said, and aggregate it.
