Tim Cook and Deirdre O'Brien are in Tokyo for the reopening of Apple Ginza, which saw crowds queuing up to buy the new iPhone 17 range.
Cook has been in Tokyo for several days, travelling there after meeting fans as the iPhone 17 went on sale in New York's Apple Fifth Avenue. Now he's been posting on social media about the response of customers to the reopened store.
A new chapter begins at Apple Ginza!

This location will always be special: It was our first store outside the US and a defining moment in how we connect with our customers around the world.

At the same time, Apple has released photos of the reopening, showing the street outside the store being as packed as the inside.
As ever, Tim Cook was joined by Deirdre O'Brien, Apple's head of retail.
Just before the doors were opened, the sidewalks on either side of this corner building were jammed with people waiting to see the new store.
The first customers were presented with an exclusive Apple Gift Card, solely for use in this specific store.
Note the woman on the right wearing a top with an old-style Apple logo on it. Throughout the photos of the opening, there are many signs of just how long customers have been Apple fans.
The store looks small in this shot, but Apple has several floors in the new building. And it's also a lot bigger than the temporary Apple Ginza, a more boutique store that Apple has operated while this original location was being demolished and rebuilt.
All of these people, and only two tore themselves away to look at the camera.

While Tim Cook last visited Japan in 2022, he tweeted more about Apple Ginza and its staff during a 2019 trip.
Our very first store outside of the US, Apple Ginza is always such a special place. Thanks for a wonderful visit! pic.twitter.com/h1ZLMhIpA5
