Apple appears to be preparing Apple Car Key support for Toyota vehicles, based on evidence found in Apple's backend systems.
Toyota might soon let drivers unlock and start compatible vehicles with an iPhone or Apple Watch. The company hasn't made a public announcement yet, though.
Apple Car Key, introduced in 2022, stores a digital car key in the Wallet app. It uses NFC to communicate with supported vehicles.

Drivers can unlock a vehicle by tapping an iPhone or Apple Watch to the door handle. Optional Face ID authentication or Apple's Express Mode allows faster access without verification.
Toyota's Remote Connect package lets you access your vehicle with a smartphone. Apple Car Key would offer better integration with Apple's ecosystem.
Toyota joins a growing list of supported automakers
While Toyota hasn't confirmed a rollout timeline, the backend activation, as spotted by MacRumors, suggests support could arrive soon.
At WWDC 2025, Apple said 13 additional automakers would soon adopt digital car keys, including Audi, Acura, Porsche, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Rivian, and Lucid.
Several manufacturers already support Apple Car Keys, including BMW, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes, and Volvo, as Apple continues to expand Wallet-based vehicle features.
