Continuing Apple's program of relocating stores to larger premises, Apple Santa Rosa Plaza is moving to nearby Montgomery Village.
As part of its four-year plan of opening or renovating stores around the world, Apple has been moving ones in the US, the UK, and Japan, to larger premises. Now its Santa Rosa Plaza store in California is the latest to move, with a new and larger site opening on January 23, 2026.
It's the second such move for the store in its 22-year history. Originally opened in October 2004 on Santa Rosa Plaza, it was a 1,500-square-foot store.
On iPhone 5 launch day in 2012, it stayed in the same shopping area, but moved to a space that was several times bigger. According to local publication The Press Democrat, Apple has said it is now moving to "significantly larger" premises.
It's not clear yet whether the store is to retain its well-known name. It's moving two miles away to an 8,684-square-foot location in the Montgomery Village retail area.
Apple's store will be sandwiched between a new Vuori store on one side, and a Me Spa on the other. It does mean that Santa Rosa Plaza is losing one of its anchor stores, but that mall's general manager says it is being replaced.
"With exciting brands like Dave & Buster's and P.F. Chang's joining soon, this is just the beginning of Santa Rosa Plaza's next chapter," said Danielle Nelson.
The Apple Santa Rosa Plaza website confirms its move, saying the store will open at 12:00 noon local time on Friday, January 23. Unlike moves such as the recent Apple Sainte-Catherine one, Apple's website is not offering downloadable wallpaper, nor announcing special Today at Apple sessions.
Unusually, though, it is explicitly linking out to Apple Maps to show where the new store is to be.
