There's been a lot of speculation that MacBook Pros will be released in the next few days, but noted leaker Mark Gurman hasn't confirmed that, and says that that new MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and Mac Studio models are just expected in early 2026.
So far, the M5 generation hasn't spread throughout the Mac ecosystem, as it exists only in the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro. Apple is anticipated to bring out new Macs as part of its early 2026 launch lineup, which should fill out the rest of the roster.
According to Mark Gurman in his "Power On" newsletter for Bloomberg, Apple is preparing to launch new Mac models in the M5 generation in early 2026, with a variety of product changes.
The 2026 roster will include quite a few updates covering both desktop and portable Macs.
Updated MacBook Pros with an OLED touchscreen are expected as part of a major revamp for the lineup. However, that probably won't happen until the end of 2026.
More immediate revamps of the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air lines with M5 are also expected, alongside a low-cost MacBook running an iPhone-grade chip.
Other items on the docket for 2025 include upgrades to the Mac mini and Mac Studio, and an update to the Apple Studio Display.
While the current focus is on M5, Gurman believes that the M6 chip could arrive a lot sooner than people could anticipate. While not for the upcoming notebook updates, he proposes that Apple isn't afraid to have a short Apple Silicon generational cycle, especially since there were only five months between the launches of M3 and M4.
Gurman has a reputation for being one of the more accurate leakers in the overall Apple rumor mill. For upcoming events and launches due within days, he has proven himself to be incredibly accurate, giving his reports more weight than other rumor spreaders.
What Apple could launch soon
The list of MacBooks Apple will probably upgrade soon starts with the MacBook Air in both 13-inch and 15-inch varieties. Since the M5 chip range exists, this is obvious.
Product identifiers revealed to AppleInsider in July 2025 pointed to a probable launch in early 2026.
When it comes to what the updates will consist of, you can expect it to be a spec-bump update, with a change of chip and little else. While rumors say an OLED upgrade is on the way, you're waiting until 2028 at least for that to happen.
A second obvious option for Apple is the MacBook Pro, will get a similar spec-bump update early in the year with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. The OLED redesign is expected in the end of 2026.
The third notebook is the most interesting. The budget MacBook could ship with cut-down specifications to join the use of an A15 or A18 Pro chip and its expectedly minimal price tag.
The Mac mini and Mac Studio updates should be similar chip-only updates, with the Mac mini gaining an M5 and M5 Pro update. The Mac Studio should at least get the M5 Max, but it is unclear how the Ultra side of things will be represented in the model.
The Apple Studio Display rumors have covered a few areas, including the possibility of two monitors. One of them should be an update to the existing 27-inch 5K model to introduce MiniLED backlighting instead of LED.
The other possible display could be a 32-inch size option, with a 6K or 7K resolution bump added on top.
