Consumers will probably be we waiting until the September to October Apple release season until they can buy a Mac mini with M5, but at least they'll be accompanied by some new iMac colors.

The update to Apple's desktop Mac lineup will take place long after the MacBook range's shift over to M5. However, while the pricey Mac Studio is anticipated to be first, the more consumer-priced Mac mini and 24-inch iMac face a far longer countdown to launch.

According to Mark Gurman in Sunday's "Power On" newsletter, the Mac mini and iMacs will arrive after the Mac Studio launch. While he doesn't mention when they will arrive, he does say it will be after the Mac Studio refresh, which he says will be in the middle of 2026.

A previous macOS Tahoe leak shared with AppleInsider in October provided hints of a Mac mini update in the summer.

As for what to expect from the updates, Gurman offers little information, aside from how they will look. The M5 Mac mini will, true to form for a spec-bump update, "look identical" to the current M4 version.

That should mean an M5 and M5 Pro update to the Mac mini, while the iMac gains an M5.

However, potential 24-inch iMac buyers have a little more to look forward to. Without specifying what they will be, Gurman is told that the New iMac roster will have a refreshed color palette.

For reference, the current iMac roster consists of seven colors: Blue, Purple, Pink, Orange, Yellow, Green, and Silver.

When it comes to accuracy, Mark Gurman has a pretty good reputation regarding Apple rumors and product scheduling.
