Apple's next iteration of Siri in iOS 27 will include a new standalone app and a new "Ask Siri" button, as Apple modernizes the long-time digital assistant.

The Apple Intelligence upgrade of Siri has faced many delays, with the refreshed feature still not living up to Apple's promises. That may all change during WWDC this June, with Apple expected to introduce a bunch of alterations.

The big change will be a standalone app for Siri, reports Bloomberg, which will be available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac later in the year, codenamed Campo. The interface will be more like the chatbots of ChatGPT and Claude, displaying previous conversations that users can continue from at a later time.

This will apparently look like a thread from the Messages app, complete with chat bubbles and a text entry field. There will also be a toggle to switch between voice and chat modes.

Considered a central repository for a user's interactions with Siri, it will also help improve the way users work with the assistant. This includes its previously-promised analysis of the user's personal data, including messages and emails, to answer queries.

The contextual awareness will also be assisted by the ability to complete tasks within apps on behalf of the user. It will also be able to use Apple's own models to search the web for results too.

Siri all the things

The way that users will be interacting with Siri will also expand considerably from the current situation, and beyond the chatbot app too.

For a start, there will be a deeper integration of Siri into the existing Spotlight search functions. Siri Suggestions will be expanded upon to use that increased user data access too.

Siri will also be invading the Dynamic Island, with the Siri icon and a "searching" indicator when Siri is processing a request.

There's also mention of an "Ask Siri" button, which will differ from the current pressing-a-physical-button version. An "Ask Siri" button will be included in the menus and options of apps.

This will also allow data to be automatically sent from the app to Siri to aid with queries and prompts.
