Apple may have combined its two hardware teams into one under Johny Srouji, but he's taken it a step further by segmenting his hardware group into five. Though not much really changed.

Apple CEO Tim Cook is stepping down and giving the position to John Ternus, who is currently the SVP of Hardware Engineering. That position is being absorbed by Johny Srouji, who will now be the Chief Hardware Officer.

According to an internal memo obtained by Bloomberg, Srouji introduced his five areas of focus and the leaders reporting to him. There are zero surprises or any real notable change.

Apple is too much of a monolith to truly change in any significant capacity, even with a new CEO and c-suite position. The areas highlighted by Srouji aren't particularly new, though if they're actually titles, some have changed.

  • Hardware engineering: Tom Marieb, formerly VP of Product Integrity in Hardware Engineering
  • Silicon: Sribalan Santhanam, formerly VP of Silicon Engineering Group
  • Advanced technologies: Zongjian Chen, formerly VP in charge of wireless chips and modems
  • Platform architecture: Tim Millet, same position
  • Project management: Donny Nordhues, same position

Notably, Zongjian Chen and Sribalan Santhanam were both front runners for replacing Srouji when there was a very brief rumor of his departure. Of course, now, Srouji isn't going anywhere with his new role.
