VuPoint Lifestyle Camera promises direct-to-iPhone file transfers with Lightning

VuPoint is launching two new action cameras, the Lifestyle Camera and an upcoming 360-degree model, with a special focus on iPhone connectivity.

The Lifestyle Camera is only capable of shooting 4-megapixel photos, but can also record widescreen 1080p video, and connects directly to an iPhone via Lightning or other devices via USB-C. That contrasts with GoPro's action cameras, which while equipped with better specs generally require people to transfer wirelessly to a paired iPhone, or else offload to a computer or tablet.

One similarity with GoPro is the availability of an iOS app for creating quickly-edited stories meant to be shared on social media, which can include music and effects.

Other camera features include microSD storage, timelapse support, and the ability to shoot Live Photos. Battery life is about 2 hours, and the camera is IPX8 waterproof, guarding it to a depth of 10 feet.

The Lifestyle Camera comes in three colors and should cost $149. A release date is unknown.

At CES 2019 the company showed AppleInsider an upcoming 360-degree camera, also equipped with a Lightning port. Few other details were available, but it should ship for $169 in the second quarter.
