Matter, sharing Home control, and more on the HomeKit Insider Podcast

Last updated

On this week's HomeKit Insider Podcast, your hosts and a guest from "The HomeKit Life" discuss a combined Siri Remote and AirTag hack, the rebranding of project CHIP to Matter, and how to share Home control.

Special guest Josh from The HomeKit Life YouTube channel joins us on the show to discuss their home setup and experience. We discuss our favorite light switches, HomeKit fans, wireless networking, and more.

Since the announcement of Apple's redesigned Siri remote alongside the new Apple TV 4K, users have bemoaned the lack of U1 chip for Find My compatibility. One user took matters into their own hands to create a Siri remote holder that includes an opening for AirTag.

The smart home alliance CHIP, which includes Apple, Google, Amazon, and Zigbee, has rebranded and now goes by the name "Matter." Philips Hue has announced it will support the new standard, and a previous announcement stated we should see Matter supported devices by the end of the year.

For those wanting to give family and friends control of their smart home, users can invite those with an iCloud account to access all their HomeKit devices. The downside to Home sharing is the lack of granular controls by room or scene. Users invited to a Home gain access to all devices and scenes at once.
