Apple releases tvOS 15.2 update with Apple Music Voice and more

Last updated

Apple released tvOS 15.2 and HomePod software 15.2 to the public, with the new updates focusing mainly on platform stability, bug fixes, and ecosystem improvements.

The tvOS update will be installed automatically but can be manually installed via the Settings app. The HomePod software update can be installed via the Home app.

In October, Apple released tvOS 15.1 which introduced SharePlay to the public and added a handful of new screensavers. SharePlay, which Apple announced during WWDC 2021, allows users to watch video content with others while on a FaceTime call.

When tvOS 15 launched in September, it added a number of features, including support for spatial audio for those using AirPods Pro and AirPods Max.

It also added a new HomeKit feature, allowing users to view HomeKit-compatible security cameras in a grid view.

HomePod software version 15.2 includes support for the new Apple Music Voice plan, as well as Apple's usual stability improvements.

Apparently, this update also includes voice recognition in languages other than English for HomePods.

Man, this spatial audio thing seems gimmicky at first, but it's easy to forget one is wearing earbuds when it's turned on.  I had just started watching Black Widow when my daughter asked me to pause so she could watch it too.  So I did, and when she came back and I started it up, she was like "Um, I can't hear it..."

Totally realistic directional sound using my Beats Fit Pro.
