Apple offers the first public betas of iOS 18 and the other fall operating systems

Public betas are now available

After a few rounds of developer betas, Apple has brought out its first public betas for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, tvOS 18, watchOS 11, and macOS Sequoia.

Public betas are considered to be beta builds that are somewhat safer for consumers to try out than developer betas. Features that exist in the public betas have usually been tried out and confirmed to be working properly in the developer betas for a while.

The first public betas are for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, watchOS 11, tvOS 18, and macOS Sequoia.

While it is unclear what features are included in the initial public beta, it is likely to mirror the contents of previous developer betas.

Just like the developer betas, AppleInsider and Apple strongly advise users avoid installing test operating systems or other beta or RC software on "mission-critical" or primary devices. Due to the small chance of data loss, testers should instead use secondary or non-essential hardware and ensure they have sufficient backups of their critical data at all times.
