Apple Intelligence is getting even smarter on iPad, with iPadOS 18.2 now available with Genmoji and Image Playground.
Following the latest set of beta testing, Apple has released iPadOS 18.2 to the public. Following the initial batch of Apple Intelligence features, the second round takes a more visual approach.
The public release of iPadOS 18.2 is build number 22C152.
Arguably the headline feature of Apple Intelligence, Image Playground is a tool for generative AI image generation. Provide the app some prompts, select the type of image you require, and it will create a series of pictures for you to choose from.
It's not just limited to the app. Using the Image Wand tool, you can turn basic sketches into images in the Notes app, or let the iPad detect key phrases from entered text to generate an appropriate picture.
Going along the imaging theme, Apple has also brought out Genmoji. A feature for Messages, it can be used to generate new emoji based on a user's prompts, and can even use subjects sourced from your Photos library.
Siri also benefits from some tweaks, with the main one being ChatGPT integration. Siri queries can be offered to be sent over to ChatGPT to be answered by its LLM, which could be useful depending on what's being asked.
The Writing Tools will be updated with its own API that third-party apps can use. "Describe Your Change" will add an extra dimension, letting users describe what they want Writing Tools to do to the text, including how to rewrite it.
Apple Intelligence is also being made available in more territories. Now, it will support English in the UK, Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and South Africa.
Other languages, including Chinese, English (India), English (Singapore), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Vietnamese will be supported in updates throughout 2025. The earliest is expected in April.
Away from Apple Intelligence, Find My benefits from Share Item Location. It allows you to share your AirTag or Find My-enabled accessories' location to be viewed by third parties.
There's also an update to the TV app that lets the navigation bar be customized with a user's selected shortcuts, and the Photos app will no longer zoom in and out on videos when you tap the screen.
The iPadOS 18.2 update will install for users on iPads that have been set to automatically update. A manual update can be performed by opening the Settings app, selecting General, then Software Update.
