The HomePod mini can no longer be purchased from select online retailers, which could indicate an impending update, though this has happened before.

Apple's compact Wi-Fi-enabled speaker, the HomePod mini, was introduced back in 2020. At only 3.3 inches tall, it is much smaller than the full-size HomePod, but you can still use it to ask Siri questions. Like any speaker, it can also play music, though not in home theater mode.

In terms of hardware, the HomePod mini hasn't seen any updates since its launch, unless you count color changes. It's been suggested that a successor product is in the works, and in October 2025 we also saw claims of dwindling stock.

Now, yet another report has outlined the same thing at select retailers in the United States.

As MacRumors points out, B&H Photo has labeled the HomePod mini as "discontinued" on its website, and is no longer selling the device. The product is marked as discontinued, even though it can still be purchased from Apple's website without issue or apparent shipping delays.

Our own stock checks are mixed on HomePod mini availability when buying directly from Apple. The pattern is similar to what we saw in January and April 2025, and there were no releases then.

In terms of retail stores, however, the Midnight color of the HomePod mini is not available for shipping from Best Buy, while other color options remain in stock. Select color options are also out of stock at Target and Verizon.

The HomePod is not available at all from Staples, and is listed as backordered on the Adorama website. Walmart, meanwhile, only appears to have the HomePod mini in stock from resellers.

While this could be interpreted as an indication of an upcoming HomePod mini update, it's not definitive proof by any means. Simply put, just because B&H Photo, or any retailer for that matter, labels a product as discontinued, does not mean it's not available from the manufacturer.

None of the other listed retailers used the word "discontinued" to refer to the HomePod mini, either. Whether or not the HomePod mini 2 will debut by the end of 2025 remains to be seen.

In any case, it would be a welcome upgrade, particularly if Apple chooses to replace the S5 chip used in the current model. If the iPhone maker announces an updated HomePod mini, it will most likely be via a press release on the company website.
