Apple has reportedly solved the creasing problem of foldable displays, as the supply chain continues to prepare for the iPhone Fold's production in 2026.

The iPhone Fold is anticipated to be launched sometime in 2026 or 2027, and have a book-like flexible screen as part of its design. If reports are right, Apple has managed to crack one of the biggest problems of foldable devices.

According to supply chain sources of UDN, Apple has made a breakthrough to solve the crease problem. It's a solution that will make the iPhone the first with a true crease-free design.

Existing foldable smartphones on the market have an issue where a frequently flexed section of the screen develops a visible crease, which can lead to cracking and eventually break the screen entirely. Solving the creasing problem will increase the life of the iPhone Fold as well as improve the user experience.

Most of the rumors about the screen have pointed to disdain that Apple has about folding screen creases, with previous reports indicating that progress was being made to improve the issue. If Apple has successfully eradicated the problem, this could give it a considerable advantage in the foldable smartphone market.

When it comes to production, Foxconn has reportedly created a dedicated production line for the iPhone Fold. If true, this would mean the iPhone Fold has exited the experimental prototyping phase and has entered the engineering verification process.

It all hinges on this

While the report doesn't explain what exactly Apple has done to fix the crease problem, it is something that has involved supply chain partners to produce.

This includes the folding inner display that is reportedly supplied by Samsung, which in July had apparently started construction of a folding iPhone display production line. However, Apple is claimed to have actually designed the panel structure, material processing, and lamination method.

Apple also worked with two suppliers, Shin Zu Shing and Amphenol, to integrate the panel and the bearing for the hinge. There is also the belief that Apple has included high-strength hinge components produced using liquid metal, minimizing deformation compared to other materials.

Current rumors for the iPhone Fold has Apple including a 7.8-inch folding display, accompanied by a 5.5-inch external display for use while the smartphone is folded up.
