The bestselling thriller "The Teacher" is headed to Apple TV, with a team known for horror taking on Frieda McFadden's tale of trust and betrayal.
Apple Original Films has scooped up another book-to-movie adaptation, this time for Frieda McFadden's psychological thriller "The Teacher." The novel was released in February 2024 and quickly rocketed to bestseller status.
The story focuses on a high school math teacher, Eve, who becomes suspicious of one of her students, Addie. Addie, known for being manipulative, develops a bond with Eve's husband, Nate, in a gripping tale of revenge.
Details are scarce at the moment, but we do know that Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg, the team behind the pitch, will adapt the novel themselves. The pair has previously written and directed the horror flick "Tarot."
Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, known for his work on "Longlegs," will produce for Range, according to Deadline, first spotted by 9to5Mac. Cohen, Halberg, and McFadden are set to executive produce.
"The Teacher" joins Apple TV's list of psychological thrillers, a genre the company seems eager to foster. And the bet has worked well for it in the past, as "Severance," its workplace psychological thriller, was the first to unseat "Ted Lasso" as Apple's most-watched series.
"Pluribus" is another big hit for Apple. The American Film Institute honored "Pluribus" with an award, and it's been nominated for the Golden Globes' Best Television Series in the drama category.
In October, Apple TV bought the rights for Jason Segel's upcoming thriller, "Sponsor."
