Users of the Apple Wallet app can now use a digital Car Key to lock and unlock the Toyota Rav4, but the feature's availability has yet to expand to other Toyota vehicles.

Since 2020, the Car Key feature has allowed iPhone and Apple Watch owners to unlock and start their cars with the use of mobile devices. According to a social media post spotted on Monday, the 2026 Toyota Rav4 has gained support for Apple's Car Key system.

More than 30 vehicle manufacturers already support Apple's Car Key feature. At WWDC 2025, Apple explained that Car Key would make its way to 13 additional vehicle brands. Toyota might be the latest automaker to roll out Apple Car Key support, but there are a few caveats.

As MacRumors points out, the 2026 Toyota RAV4 is currently the only Toyota known to feature Car Key support. The capability is also mentioned on Toyota's website, which lists the specifications for the 2026 Rav4.

It remains to be seen which additional 2026 Toyota vehicles will receive Apple Car Key compatibility. Apple's compatibility list for the Car Key feature has not yet been updated to include the Toyota Rav4.

Additionally, 2026 Toyota Rav4 owners will seemingly need a Toyota Remote Connect subscription, priced at $15 per month. Those who purchase a new Toyota in the United States will receive a free one-year Remote Connect trial.

Typically, Apple Car Key lets drivers lock and unlock their car, and start it, using an iPhone or Apple Watch, thanks to NFC. With the keys stored in the user's wallet, it's possible to unlock vehicles by standing near them or remotely, or to use an NFC reader to start them up.

Toyota's version of the capability, meanwhile, relies on Ultra Wideband technology. Toyota Rav 4 owners will need an Apple Watch Series 6 or newer, or an iPhone 11 or newer, excluding all iPhone SE models and the iPhone 16e.
