Apple and the Sydney Opera House are collaborating on a series of creativity projects for young people, including the chance to have iPad-created art projected on the famous building.

Just as it did for Christmas with its UK headquarters, Apple is inviting people to submit artwork on the iPad to the Sydney Opera house. It's part of a 12-month collaboration which will see Apple supporting arts programming, including a new international children's festival later in 2026.

"For 50 years, Apple has been at the forefront of empowering creativity, providing tools that allow people to imagine, design, and share their unique visions with the world," said Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, in a statement. "We are thrilled to be working with such an iconic Australian cultural landmark to help inspire the next generation of creatives."

The most immediately visible result of the collaboration is a newly-commissioned artwork, "Illuminating Creativity." From March 25, 2026, to March 27, it will be a series of static and moving artworks projected onto the Opera House's eastern Bennelong sails.

"The Sydney Opera House, like Apple, is synonymous with creativity,"said Louise Herron AM, the Sydney Opera House's CEO. "This collaboration is a natural fit between two organisations that continue to search for new ways for people to experience the world."

Artwork has already been commissioned from a group of emerging Australian artists, who have created their pieces using Procreate on iPad. From March 9 to 15, members of the public can also submit art for consideration, and there are free Today at Apple sessions about it.

"Procreate was born from the belief that multitouch and Apple Pencil could transform the experience of creating digital art," said Procreate CEO James Cuda. "Fifteen years later, this initiative with Apple and the Sydney Opera House underscores our shared commitment to making powerful creative tools accessible to everyone, from beginners to professional artists."

During the similar UK Battersea Power Station project in November 2025, Apple provided a downloadable template for iPad. So far there's no similar template for Sydney, and Apple has not yet said how artwork can be contributed outside of the dedicated Today at Apple sessions.
