Apple's smart home hub was going to arrive in the spring, but the continued wait for the updated Siri has forced another delay to the end of 2026.
On March 5, a leaker claimed that Apple's smart home device, which we refer to as Home Hub, was doing to launch in late 2026. A new report on Monday has corroborated that rumor, pushing back the plan to update Apple Home to later in the year.
In Monday's post to Bloomberg, Mark Gurman is informed by people with knowledge of the matter that there's a delay affecting the smart home display. That delay is caused by Siri.
Originally expected to launch in spring 2025, the smart home monitor was delayed because of continued slow progress revising Siri for the Apple Intelligence generation. It was then planned to be introduced in March 2026, but it's being postponed once again because Siri still isn't ready.
Sources say the new plan is to get the hardware unveiled to the public in September. That is, if Apple can actually get new Siri out the door in time.
The mind is weak, but the body is willing
It seems that repeated failures to bring Siri to market is the only thing that's holding Apple back from releasing the product. According to the report, the hardware side of things has been finished for several months.
That hardware is claimed to take the form of a square iPad-like device, which will act as the central AI hub for the smart home network. That display would be attached to a half-dome speaker base, or to a wall, possibly using a MagSafe-like approach.
The panel will display circular app icons, in a similar way to the Apple Watch's interface, and would be used to manage the network itself. Facial recognition will help the system determine who is using the display, allowing it to show personalized data such as appointments or music playlists.
Aside from having a seven-inch display, the device will also use one USB-C connection for power, and have a typical Apple silver aluminum casing. Future updates include a long-rumored version with a nine-inch display attached to a robot arm, which could arrive in 2027.
Apple is also working on home security devices as well. This includes a smart doorbell that leaker Kosutami said in late February will have "MagSafe on your door."
Previous rumors also said Home Key and Face ID would be supported by the device, which will also ring a user's AirPods too.
