'Peek performance' Apple event preview, Apple VR timeline, and more on the AppleInsider podcast

Last updated

On this week's episode of the AppleInsider podcast, what to expect at the March 8 Apple event including updated Mac desktops, a new iPhone SE, and the probability of a VR headset announcement.

Apple has announced that its next virtual event, "Peek Performance," is to be held on March 8 at 10 a.m Pacific Time (1 p.m. Eastern). We run down all the devices expected to launch, notably the iPad Air 5, updated iPhone SE, and new Apple Silicon Macs.

Two Macs we expect to see at the event are the revised Mac mini with M1 Pro and M1 Max options, and the larger 27-inch iMac. While on the outside edge of possibility, Apple is rumored to also release the second-generation AirPods Pro with additional features like lossless audio playback.

Given the tagline of "Peek Performance," though, your hosts discuss the possibility of an Apple VR headset announcement. When Apple has launched other new product categories, like the Apple Watch, it has teased hardware months in advance of consumer availability. With rumors claiming a late 2022 or early 2023 release, a March introduction is possible.

In addition to our Apple event preview, we highlight several Mac mini modifications that show how portable this desktop computer could be. John Gruber recently reported on the origin of the iPhone, Twitter may be working on podcast integration , and Wes reviews the Keychron Q1 mechanical keyboard.
