In a special episode of the AppleInsider Podcast, we recap everything Apple announced at its "Far Out" event, including Apple Watch Ultra, AirPods Pro 2, iPhone 14, and iPhone 14 Pro with always-on display.
Apple kicked off its "Far Out" event by launching the Apple Watch Series 8 with a new temperature sensor. Its physical design remains the same as Apple Watch Series 7 but sports a new S8 chip with 64-bit dual-core processor.
A new high-g accelerometer enables crash detection on Apple Watch Series 8 and the updated Apple Watch SE.
A new addition to the lineup is Apple Watch Ultra. This model features a 49mm casing and only comes in the titanium finish. Geared toward athletes and outdoor adventure seekers, Apple Watch Ultra supports an additional L5 GPS module and a second speaker with an 86-decibel siren to attract attention.
New AirPods Pro 2 were announced, featuring an updated H2 chip and 2x improved noise cancellation. A new capacitive touch surface is on the stems for swipe gestures, and they now come with an extra-small size ear tip.
The AirPods Pro 2 case now includes a U1 chip for precision finding and a built-in speaker for easier locating.
Apple then announced the iPhone 14 and larger 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus models. New features include satellite connectivity for emergency SOS and an improved camera system with "Photonic Engine" image processing.
Apple's iPhone 14 is powered by last year's A15 Bionic but gains new sensors that enable crash detection.
iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max gained several rumored features, including an always-on display, 48MP camera sensor, and the new "Dynamic Island" area. The iPhone 14 Pro models gained a new A16 Bionic chip, enabling Cinematic mode at full 4K 30fps and improved low-light photography.
Car crash detection and emergency SOS via satellite also comes to the iPhone 14 Pro lineup.
