A new Apple Store is opening in Shenzhen at an upscale shopping centre The MixC, as the company continues its expansion into mainland China.
The new store will be at The MixC shopping center in Shenzhen's Luohu district and opens on April 28. It comes after the opening of new Apple Stores in Changsha, the capital of south-central Hunan province, in 2021, and Wuhan, the capital of central Hubei province, last year.
Apple is continuing to expand into mainland China despite political tensions between the US and China and the company's manufacturing shift out of China, according to a report from South China Morning Post. The Greater China region, which includes Hong Kong and Taiwan, accounted for 20% of Apple's global net sales.
Apple CEO Tim Cook went on a China tour in March, meeting with China's new premier Li Qiang and other senior government officials to discuss Apple's future in the country and maintain relations. He also visited the video gaming studio miHoYo and various app developers.
Along with a new Apple Store in Shenzhen, the company recently opened its second retail location in India, called Apple Saket. Cook and Deirdre O'Brien visited the store at its opening to greet customers.
Although the majority of iPhones are still assembled in China, India-made iPhones were up 65% in 2022.
