Severance follows Mark Scout, played by Adam Scott, who leads a team at the secretive Lumon Industries. To ensure a "work-life balance," employees under go a "severance," a surgical procedure to separate the memories of their work and personal lives.

The first season had Mark and other employees uncover an unraveling mystery surrounding his work. The second season will deal with the employees learning about piercing the severance barrier and its consequences.

The cast also includes Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Zach Cherry, Jen Tulloch, Michael Chernus, Dichen Lachman, John Turturro, Christopher Walken, Patricia Arquette, and Sarah Bock. It is executive produced by Ben Stiller, who also directs five episodes for the second season.

The second season started filming in October 2022, but it has had a troubled production.

There were reports the showrunners hated each other, causing delays. Production also paused in May 2023, during the second week of the Writers Guild of America strike.

I know there was a pandemic in play but damn. Hopefully, if there will be a seson three we won't have to wait this long for it.

I loved this series but, covid or no covid, THREE YEARS between seasons is nuts.

There were two industry-wide strikes that wiped out 2023:

The show also had some production problems with writers, showrunners, budget:

This pushed shooting into early 2024 and there has to be post-production before release.

That site says Apple wants a season 3 and 4, budget is reported to be $20m/episode, which seems extremely high for a show set in cubicles. Game of Thrones was ~$10-15m/episode and that had huge amounts of extras, costumes, sets, post-production VFX.

Seems like they might be trying to milk Apple for money now that it's one of their hit shows.
