Apple has started a brand new developer beta testing cycle, issuing the first round of builds for iOS 26.2, iPadOS 26.2, watchOS 26.2, tvOS 26.2, and visionOS 26.2, but not macOS Tahoe 26.1.
This is the start of a brand new set of developer betas, following the release of the 26.1 generation. That included the release candidate betas, which arrived on October 28 after four prior beta builds.
- iOS 26.2 beta 1 is build 23C5027f
- iPadOS 26.2 beta 1 is build 23C5027f
- watchOS 26.2 beta 1 is build 23S5280e
- visionOS 26.2 beta 1 is build 23N5279e
- tvOS 26.2 beta 1 is build 23K5029e
One omission from the list is macOS Tahoe 26.2 beta 1. At the time of publication, Apple hasn't issued a build for it, but there's every chance it will arrive in the following days.
As the first round of the new developer betas, it is unclear what is being introduced this time around. During the previous round, testing took place on Apple Intelligence expansion, background security improvements, and Liquid Glass.
AppleInsider and Apple strongly recommend against users installing beta operating systems or beta software onto primary or "mission-critical" hardware, due to the persistent risk of data loss. Beta participants should instead use secondary or less critical hardware, and have sufficient backups of their data at all times.
Apple usually releases a public beta version of its updates shortly after the developer counterpart. A more battle-hardened version of the update, with potentially fewer bugs or issues, it is the version that interested members of the public should try, not the developer build.
