Satechi Pro Hub Mini brings more ports to the new MacBook Pro

Satechi's new, compact hub brings Gigabit Ethernet and USB-A to the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro.

While Apple has brought a slew of much-requested ports back to the new MacBook Pro lineup, there are still a few key ports users may want.

That's why Satechi has come up with the Pro Hub Mini. It's a compact USB-C hub that adds a few ports you may want — namely a gigabit ethernet port, but a few others, too. It attaches to the side of your MacBook Pro via the left-side Thunderbolt 4 ports, leaving your MagSafe port open for charging.

Satechi's Pro Hub Mini includes:

  • 1 x 40Gbps data USB 4 ports — up to 96W charging or 6K 60Hz display output
  • 2 x 5Gbps USB-A data ports - does not support charging or CD drives
  • 1 x 5Gbps USB-C data port
  • 1 x Gigabit ethernet port
  • 1 x 3.5mm audio jack

The Pro Hub Mini is available in Space Gray and Silver and can be preordered directly from Satechi for $69.99. Using the coupon code PROHUB gets you a 25% discount, and the devices are expected to ship in early January.

What does it mean “does not support CD drives”?
Does not support powering them? Or why would there be such a thing as a non-CD-drive-USB-port?

I have an external DVD drive that is powered from the USB port but also included an adapter for external power because some USB ports don't supply enough power.  I assume "does not support CD Drives" means it doesn't have the ability to supply enough power to run a CD/DVD drive.

The USB-A ports do not provide the power required for a portable CD drive.

It is strange that they don't given that there is USB-C right there on the hub.
