March Apple event, 2021 iPads, iMac Pro discontinued on the AppleInsider podcast

New iPads rumored for March 23 event

On this week's AppleInsider Podcast your hosts discuss that it's looking more likely that there will be an Apple event on March 23, talk about possible new iPads and "AirPods 3" coming soon, lament Apple's discontinuation of iMac Pro after three years of no updates, and more.

Multiple sources are claiming Apple will hold an event on March 23. Products rumored to be announced include the long-awaiting "AirTags," new iPad models, and on the outside maybe a new iMac. Additional leaks of the coming "AirPods 3" also seems a likely announcement at this event.

Also this week, Apple discontinued the iMac Pro — and the base model remains for sale on Apple's website "while supplies last." This single generation product was a stop-gap as Apple worked on the latest Mac Pro and will be replaced by the Apple Silicon iMacs.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted that Apple will utilize a total of 15 cameras in the upcoming AR headset rumored to launch in 2022. Kuo also claims that the 2022 iPhone will use a "unibody camera lens" that integrates a camera's voice coil motor with its lens array.

Several creative applications were recently updated to natively run on Apple Silicon including DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Photoshop, and 1Password. But, professionals considering upgrading to the M1 compatible software should take note of the many features missing from this new version of Photoshop compared to the Intel-optimized alternative.

An internal AppleCare email explains that Apple will move to randomized serial numbers in "early 2021". This change would obscure certain information from being surfaced by the serial number, including the week and year of production and location of manufacture.

We share several iPhone tips at the end of the show, including how to access the one-handed keyboard, creating text expansion shortcuts, and we highlight a new Shortcuts Library built by Matthew Cassinelli who originally worked on the Workflow team.
